Build from over 200
pieces of solid Sapele, this boat shaped bathtub is
comfortable, warm and deep. A beautiful vessel
that will take you across smooth seas. Named for
the water I look at from my home and workshop, the
Salish Sea is the name for the northwest inland sea that
includes Puget Sound, the Strait of Georgia and the
Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Sealed with many
layers of epoxy, an invisible layer of fiberglass
reinforcing and then 6 coats of varnish, the wood will
stay dry and beautiful. The bathtub shown has a
second internal rim with an overflow drain that flows
between the walls of the tub to the bottom.
Alternately the bathtub could be built without this
inner wall and instead have a beautifully sculpted
overflow that leads over the low point of the back side
to a floor drain. This would allow for thinner
walls and a lighter appearance. The faucet is
floor mounted and reaches up and over the rim.
